Call for Papers
Using technologies for improving wellness or motivating to wellness activities has expanded remarkably during the last years, becoming a recognized domain gaining interest both in research, industry and business. For example, there are over 20000 wellness, fitness, sport and health related downloadable applications for iPhone, and some mobile applications have millions of users. Similarly, Internet has become the leading information source of health and wellness maintenance. A general trend is that the individuals are more and more empowered for taking care of their health and wellbeing.
While the former approach was to measure physical activity and provide numerical and graphical analysis based on the measurements made, for example, with the pedometers or heart rate monitors, the area of wellness technologies is much more versatile today. Currently, utilizing the contextual information and personalizing the applications and data to better match to the individual users' needs, and expanding from physical wellness towards more holistic definition and services, are examples of dominant design trends. In addition, several gaming companies have started launching products that aim at motivate people in doing physical activity in a playful manner.
The goal of the workshop is to gather together researchers and practitioners from different institutes and CHI domains to network, discuss, and share their work in the area. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to,
- innovative concepts
- proof-of-concept prototypes
- user interface design
- persuasive design
- user studies
- mobile or ubiquitous computing
- use of social media applications
- studies combining medical, psychological and HCI aspects
that relate to designing for wellness and behavior change.
